The city of Worthington made minor amendments to the development plan for the future global headquarters of Olive at 6700 N. High St. as it prepares for the company's eventual move.
The amendments pertain to signs and features at the rear of the building.
The Olive property is to have multiple freestanding signs on the property, the main one being a 69-foot Olive Global Headquarters sign on the front lawn of the property, to be constructed of brick and aluminum with some LED illumination.
The other freestanding sign is to be a First Bank of Central Ohio sign, as First Bank would continue to be a tenant at the property.
Other freestanding signs on the site include directional signs to help employees and guests navigate the property.
Multiple variances also are to be applied to the Olive property, as several features don't traditionally align with city zoning. For example, the city grants tenants one wall sign per business, and Olive would have three wall signs, according to city planning and building director Lee Brown.
Improvements to the rear of the building include wraparound benching and overhead hanging lights at the entrance.
Worthington City Council member Rebecca Hermann expressed some concern during council’s July 25 meeting that the brilliant white features on the front sign of the Olive property would be too distracting.
“When I think about driving (past that), ... is that will pull my eye to that long line of white,” she said.
Brian Bernstein, managing partner at architectural firm REALM Collaborative, said the brilliant white features wouldn't be much of a visual lure, with LEDs that would emphasize the bottom of the sign, and it would be less brilliant toward the top, with an LED strip that sits at the base.
Columbus health-care technology startup Olive announced in April it plans to move its global headquarters from its current address at 99 E. Main St. in Columbus to the 6700 N. High St. property, which currently houses only First Bank of Central Ohio.
Brown said it’s been indicated to him that the company should be in the new headquarters in early 2023.
Attempts to reach Olive for comment were unsuccessful.
