Ethan Plath from WTP doesn't fully grasp the issues within his marriage. His recent behavior may just spell the end for his happily ever after.

Ethan Plath from Welcome to Plathville wants his marriage to work, but at what cost? He has constantly told his wife, Olivia Plath, that he is willing to put in the work needed to meet her halfway, but his actions prove otherwise. Some fans think he has a skewed perception of marriage and is in denial about the impending outcome of his relationship. Since childhood, Ethan Plath has had a passion for fixing and restoring things, especially classic cars. Olivia has always supported his hobby, but it started to become an issue when he would use it as a form of escaping problems instead of communicating and dealing with them head-on.

In season 3, it was a point of contention that led to the couple's brief separation. Olivia said she felt like she didn’t get to see Ethan very often when he was home because he was always out working on his cars instead of spending quality time together. Their separation was supposed to be a time that the young couple could figure out what they wanted and what they could do to have a happy and healthy marriage. During that time, instead of truly listening to Olivia and how she felt, he secretly bought another old car to fix up and didn’t tell her about it. This, of course, caused a further divide between the Welcome to Plathville couple and broke trust.

Despite all the trouble that it caused, Ethan was happy that he finally got the car running. He posted a video to his Instagram, showcasing the car and grinning ear to ear, clearly in his element. He captioned the post, writing, "Had my brother-in-law hold a 5-gallon tank in the trunk so I could drive! The old thing runs great! Pure joy!!!" While some fans were glad to see Ethan smiling, others were frustrated with how he handled the situation and deceived Olivia. One fan wrote, "Lie, lie, lie, deny, deny, deny! Now how could a wife ever get mad at a husband who is supposed to be her best friend and safe person who she shares everything and trusts the most! Yay, why would lying and denying for months do any damage?"

Another fan understood Olivia's feelings about their marriage not taking priority, writing, "My husband has an obsession with cars also and it has not been easy or fun to be married to that. You’ll never compare and cars will always win!" It seems that Ethan doesn't understand the toll his obsession and lies are having on his relationship. When finally coming clean to Olivia eight months later and revealing the big secret, he didn't know why she was so upset. He defeatedly looked at the camera and said, "If coming up here to work on my cars or whatever is a setback in our marriage, then our marriage isn't much of a marriage."

The couple only seems to be drifting farther apart in the new season of Welcome to Plathville. It's true that Ethan Plath has given up a lot trying to compromise in order for their marriage to work, but he is blinded to the impact that his choices have made. Unfortunately, his hobby is continuing to take priority over his wife, and he doesn’t seem to understand that. Instead of acknowledging her feelings and taking accountability for his actions, he uses the excuse of not understanding her. Many fans feel that Ethan isn't mature enough for Olivia, and it is only a matter of time before she decides to leave for good.
