An electronic billboard is being reviewed for non-compliance by the Bloomington Planning and Transportation Committee. The question is whether its new electronic screen complies with municipal code.

The billboard was granted a variance (exemption) in 2010, allowing it to advertise businesses off-site.

“We sent a notice of violation previously without realizing there was the 2010 variance,” said Jacqueline Scanlan, development services manager.

The committee is now rescinding that notice while investigating further.

“We are in the process of determining whether or not the changes that were made continue to be code compliant,” Scanlan said.

If they are found to be non-compliant, the committee will send another notice of violation.

Lamar Advertising, which owns the billboard, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
