An appeal for an advertising screen to be installed in London Road has been dismissed by Preston City Council’s planning inspector.
The appeal site is located in the Fishwick and Frenchwood ward, between Shiny Hand Car Wash at 277 London Road and the former Shawes Arms pub at 279.
The proposed screen would have been an internally illuminated digital poster display with a vertical meadow green wall. It would have been over 6m wide and 3m in height.
Planned to be positioned nearly 3m above the ground, the screen would have been visible to road and Guild Wheel users, against a backdrop of the car wash and mature woodland.

Council paperwork states that the Inspector dismissed the appeal as she believed the screen would harm the character and appearance of the area.
In reaching her decision, the Inspector noted that due its large size the screen ‘would have an awkward relationship with the buildings and structures behind’.
The Inspector said the screen’s illuminated imagery would be ‘conspicuous and visually obtrusive, in marked contrast to the existing relatively modest and more traditional signage in the area’.
